Good morning. Please join us on Friday, May 26th, as Jim Barker, Director of Professional Services, Data Strategy at Alation, relates his real-world experiences helping organizations adopt new approaches to data governance, building data literacy, and creating data culture.

Data should be a key asset for organizations and organizations are investing in data and bringing focus to delivering that value. Yet many report that they are getting further away from being data-driven and creating a data culture. Data governance lays the foundation for putting data into action, but now everyone needs to tackle data literacy and the added complexity of cloud systems. Jim Barker will relate his real-world experiences in helping organizations adopt new approaches to data governance, building data literacy and creating data culture.

Dr. James Barker

Jim Barker is the Director of Professional Services, Data Strategy at Alation. In his role at Alation, Jim leads a team of resources that delivers Data Strategy projects, leads Alation's Data Governance Working Group, and is a thought leader for data governance. In his 30+ years in the Industry, Jim has worked in a variety of data management disciplines most notably as the Director of Data Management for Honeywell, Data Warehouse Architect at Thomson-Reuters, and the Director of Solutions at both Informatica and nCloudIntegrators.

Jim, as product manager, also worked at Winshuttle to drive out data governance capability and improve the Foundation platform. Jim was instrumental in architecting one of the first Big Data Solutions including Data Governance at Thomson. He also led an award winning team that rolled out SAP worldwide at Honeywell, that include SaaS integration, the introduction of a Data Governance Council, and many innovations in alignment with Honeywell's Velocity Product Release Program. Jim's academic involvement included writing a dissertation on Data Governance and the development of both a conceptual framework for data governance and leveraging the concept of DataOps in 2009.
